About the Archive

This site holds the black and white travel photography of Irving Posluns: hundreds of candid portraits and street scenes made on film over 25 years of travel, from Burma, Nepal and Tibet to China, India, Bali, New Guinea and South East Asia. Every photograph was drum scanned from the original negative and none has been retouched.

Viewing is free

Anyone can enjoy the photographs that rotate on the front page; they are drawn at random from the complete archive. To browse and search the whole collection in the Image Viewer, by country, region and subject, with each photograph shown alongside its details, please sign in with a free account.

A free account

There is no charge for an account. We simply ask who you are so we know who is visiting the archive and which photographs are being downloaded. Each new account is reviewed personally, and you will receive an email when yours is approved.

With an approved account you may choose up to five photographs. Low-resolution JPG copies of your selection are sent to you by email, free of charge.

What the free copies are for. The low-resolution downloads are provided for personal viewing and for evaluating whether a photograph suits your purpose, for example deciding which print to order or trying an image in a layout. They may not be printed, published, shared publicly, or used for any commercial purpose.

Archival prints

If you would like to own a photograph, archival prints can be ordered. Each print is made from the full-resolution drum scan on archival paper using Piezography black and white printing, producing a museum-quality reproduction. Buying a print gives you the print itself to display and enjoy. It does not include the right to copy or reproduce the image.

Commercial and editorial use

To use a photograph in a publication, on a website, in advertising, as corporate décor or in any other commercial application, a licence (rental fee) is required. The fee depends on how the photograph will be used, for example the size, print run or audience, where it will appear, and for how long. Please contact us with the details of your project for a quote. No use may be made of an image until the licence has been paid in full.

Copyright
