Tutorial
This short guide explains how to explore the photographs of Irving Posluns, set up your free account, and receive copies of the photographs you like. It takes about five minutes.
-
Enjoy the front page
The front page opens with a portrait of Irving Posluns, then slowly fades through photographs chosen at random from the whole archive, with the subject and place shown beneath each one. No account is needed to watch.
-
Read how the archive works
The About page explains what is free and what is not: viewing is free, a free account lets you request low-resolution copies, and archival prints and commercial licences can be ordered. The Biography tells the story of Irving’s life and photography.
-
Create your free account
Go to Account log-in and fill in Create an account. Every field is required: your name and organization (write “Personal” if you don’t have one), contact details and address, the country of the archive that interests you most, how you are interested (viewer, purchaser, commercial or institution), your preferred image format, and a password of at least 8 characters. Tick the box to confirm the free copies are for personal use, then choose Request account.
You will receive an email confirming that your request has arrived.
-
Wait for approval
Every new account is reviewed personally. When yours is approved, you will receive a second email, “Your account has been approved”, with a link to sign in. If you don’t see it, please check your spam folder.
-
Log in
Return to Account log-in and enter your email and password under Log in. You will be taken straight to the Image Viewer. You stay signed in on that device for 30 days, or until you choose Log out.
-
Browse and search the archive
The Image Viewer shows the collection as a grid. Narrow it down by Country and Region, or type a word in Subject, for example boat, market or child. Choose Show more at the bottom to see further photographs.
-
Look closely at a photograph
Click any photograph to open its own page. You will see it large, with its subject, place, the size of the full-resolution scan, and its catalogue number. Use Previous and Next (or the ← and → keys) to move through the photographs you were browsing, and Back to the archive to return to your search.
-
Choose up to five photographs
On a photograph’s page, choose Add to my selection. A bar at the bottom of the screen shows your selection as you go; you can choose up to five. Choose Remove from my selection to change your mind.
-
Request your copies
Choose Review & request in the selection bar (or go to Account log-in). Check your selection, then choose Send my photographs and confirm. Within a minute or two you will receive an email with the photographs attached as low-resolution JPG files, along with their subjects, places and catalogue numbers.
-
Order a print or a licence
Every photograph is available as a museum-quality archival print, and can be licensed for commercial or editorial use. On any photograph’s page, choose Order a print or licence, or simply reply to the email you received, and include the catalogue number. See the Contact page for other ways to reach us.
Please remember: the free low-resolution copies are for personal viewing and for deciding whether a photograph suits your purpose. They may not be printed, published, shared publicly or used commercially.
